OneThousandBars

So, I go over to Hawsies site to see whats new in the political world and he had this link: 1000 Bars.

It is quite the feat so I emailed him to give him some support in his final stretch. I have to admit I was a little disapointed in missing 99.2 percent of his quest, but it was cool to find out about it.

Here is the letter I wrote to him and the response I got back (quite speedely by the way):

I just found out about your quest! Imagine how disapointed I was to find out it is almost over!!!

I wish you much luck in your final stretch!! & Happy Holidays!!

Robb,
Thanks for your well wishes. True, I am almost done with my journey, but Iam glad you found it before it was over. Just think, you can go back and read the history of it all.
Dan

So, if you can, drop him a line to give him that extra little push to the finish, I bet he writes back!

Hittless Youth

We had a new fashion idea at the ol' school today...Long, grey, wool, trench-coats. Complete with those thingies on the shoulders, and a red arm band.

Two restless youth trying to buck the system or at least get a rise out of someone. The students were a little upset. Apparently they thought it was a swastika on the arm band. I think the fashionistas thought it said something cool about Nazi's or something. But, lucky for us our new principal was a German teacher. She translated the words to say, "Helper of the police". Ooooooooo scary.

Can we all raise our hands at a 45degree angle and repeat after me: BIG PILE! BIG PILE!

Although they appear harmless and not too bright, they might be the one's to bring an arsenal of guns to school someday. And lucky enough, my room is about 4 lockers down from their lockers.

I got _____ on my mind....

The following is a list of things on my mind as of late...

1> About a dozen blog posts I can't remember completely

2> X-mas gifts - I truly believe my best gifts come while under pressure of a time constraint

3> What do my wife and new daughter do all day while I am gone?

4> Run D-L-E, my good buddy Rundle is coming back to Iowa from LA to visit in just a few days

5> Foos, as in Foos Ball. I have pretty much inherited a Foos table from my wife's Aunt, it will look sweet in the Schmidt Basement Bar

6> Life would be much simpler if we didn't have to shit or pee

7> Track season...yep, that's right Track and Field season, it's only a few short months away.

8> How much will I have to fork over for my heating bill this month, having a baby pretty much requires you to keep the heat up.

9> Violated - by Long John Silvers, they juked me last weekend by neglecting to put my coleslaw into the bag. Normally we limit our trips there to once a year, because your body needs time to adjust to the grease factor. But, since I was stiffed, can I return so I can complain?

10> Is it time for a haircut?

A colleague once told me...

"High School wrestling is like Nascar in tights."

Here are a few reasons as to why this is so true:

* There was a fight, not in the meet between athletes, but outside between fans...

* One guy showed up wearing a complete set of RealTree cammo complete with a Hunter orange cap...

* After the last middle school meet, there was a guy walking all over the mat with paint splattered all over him. As he walked he tracked white footprints across the mat. When confronted he claimed;" I don't have ANY paint on me." Paint or whatever it was made it easy to point out his tracks leading up to where he was standing. I believe he was bitter that his son got his ass handed to him...

* Flannel, chewing tobacco, stocking caps and workboots are prevalent everywhere...

You may have to understand that in Iowa, especially northeast Iowa, wrestling is more than sport, it's a passion. For many families it is a rite of passage for many boys. Many kids wrestle longer than they play baseball, starting wrestling in pee-wee tournies at 3 or 4.

Uh..Hemmmmmm!

I have an announcement to make. Not only am I corrupting young minds daily as a HS teacher, I have also begun procreating.

That's right, spawn of Robby has arrived. This weekend my wife gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Addison.

She's not quite a spitting image, but she did get my dimples...all four of them.
